Eintracht Frankfurt badly needed a response after their 0-6 humiliation at RB Leipzig, and they got one. A 1-0 home win over Köln on Friday evening, sealed by Younes Ebnoutalib in the 77th minute, delivered the relief the club desperately required. The victory moved Frankfurt to 11th in the Bundesliga table with eight points from six games, a modest return for a side with clear ambitions at the start of the season.

The result matters beyond the three points. Trainer Adi Hütter had come under intense scrutiny following the Leipzig disaster, not only for the performance but for his public criticism of captain Robin Koch, whom he substituted at half-time and later described as needing to be "relieved." Lothar Matthäus added external pressure, telling Sport Bild the comments looked bad. Hütter moved quickly to restore Koch's standing before the Köln match, confirming he would play and retain the captaincy. The win steadied the situation without fully resolving it.

Defensive fragility remains the club's central problem. Frankfurt conceded 16 goals in their first five league games, the third-worst record in the division. One clean sheet against a Köln side missing both senior strikers through injury offers limited reassurance. The underlying issues Hütter inherited, including a significant squad rebuild following a difficult previous season under Albert Riera, have not disappeared.

Attention now turns to a trip to Borussia Dortmund on October 24, where Frankfurt will face a side in strong early-season form. It is a fixture that will test whether Friday's win marks a genuine turning point.
