In his rise to being an integral part of Real Madrid's first team, Lucas Vazquez developed the tag 'customary substitute' given the number of occasions he has been introduced from the bench.

The 26-year-old was former manager, Zinedine Zidane's, go-to guy when Madrid needed something entirely different in attack.

Vazques has mastered the art of stretching the pitch, creating space for others in the middle.  He also offers pace and directness going forward and above all, works hard throughout the game.

The man from Galicia made 33 La Liga appearances during the 2017/2018 campaign, starting in 16 of them. Madrid won 11 of those matches, drew three and suffered two defeats.

He also contributed to 12 of Madrid's goals, netting four goals and assisting eight.

Recently, new Madrid boss Santiago Solari picked Vazquez in what seemed a new look Madrid with new young faces like Marcos Llorente, Sergio Reguilon and Federico Valverde and only a few established seniors.

He has repaid Solari's faith with two goals in the past two games against Roma and Valencia.

Vazquez has played six of the seven games that Solari has overseen so far at the helm and in five - he has played the full 90 minutes.

While he makes the most of his appearances from the bench, he has proven to be a strong player all-around when called upon.

And with his impeccable, positive attitude, he is indeed deserving of a starting berth.
