‘Not sure what I got booked for!’ - Wrexham ban puzzles Phil Parkinson after sitting out game that delivered FA Cup misery for Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney

The Red Dragons took to the field at Ewood Park for an FA Cup fourth-round clash with Blackburn Rovers knowing that their manager would not be in the dugout. He was forced to take up a seat in the stands after landing a suspension.

Parkinson picked up his third booking of the season in a derby date with Welsh rivals Newport County, but has not been informed what that caution was for. He has said of being forced off the bench against Blackburn: "If you get three bookings you get suspended but I am still not sure actually what I got booked for at Newport, I am still waiting for a response. But managers have been booked for celebrating goals this season and it is so easy to pick up yellow cards. It is a passionate game. Of course, if you show dissent towards officials and your language is not right you can expect a yellow card but we have been getting yellows for absolutely innocuous things. I am glad the suspension is out of the way and I am looking forward to being back on the touchline at the weekend."

Parkinson added on watching Wrexham's latest performance from a more elevated position to the one that he is accustomed to filling: “It was different. It was difficult because it is great to be right involved in the action and being up there is a different kind of perspective on the game.”

Wrexham, who suffered a 4-1 defeat at Blackburn to see their FA Cup dreams dashed for another year, will be back in action on Saturday when taking in a trip to Salford – a League Two rival that also stars in its own documentary series and one Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been advised to take important lessons from.
