Neither McElhenney nor his fellow Red Dragons co-owner Ryan Reynolds were in attendance at SToK Racecourse for a meeting between two League One promotion hopefuls. Blues investor Tom Brady, who sat alongside David Beckham during a first meeting between the two sides this season, was also left watching on from afar.
McElhenney donned a Los Angeles Fire Department t-shirt, having been caught up in the recent wildfires in California, and told Sky Sports when delivering a post-match review: “I just want to say thank you for an incredible game tonight. 1-1, I’ll take that against Birmingham City, who is probably the best side we’ve played all season. Up the Town forever, hope to see you soon.”
WHAT NEXT?
As they had done in the reverse fixture at St Andrew’s, Wrexham took an early lead against Birmingham – with Ollie Rathbone firing home from distance on this occasion. The Blues restored parity courtesy of a deflected Lyndon Dykes effort, but the points were shared this time around as both teams remain in the automatic promotion hunt.
