  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Scotland international stepped out of his comfort zone when leaving Manchester United for Italy in the summer of 2024. His performances in Naples have seen more uncomfortable questions asked of the transfer decisions being made at Old Trafford.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

McTominay has been a revelation at Napoli, registering 11 goals this season. He bagged a match-winning brace in his latest appearance, against Torino, and has overtaken United legend Denis Law (10 goals for Torino in 1961-62) as the most prolific Scot in a single Serie A campaign.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

McTominay is also the first Scot since Charlie Adam (12 goals for Blackpool in 2010-11) to reach double figures in a single campaign in one of Europe's top-five leagues. The 28-year-old midfielder is understandably loving life right now.

  • WHAT SCOTT MCTOMINAY SAID

Having been billed as McTerminator, MacGyver, the bottle opener (because he unlocks games) and the very Neapolitan McFratm (with Fratm being a Neopolitan word for ‘brother’), McTominay told DAZN of his favoured moniker in Italy: “McFratm is the best one! [Pasquale] Mazzocchi would say that one.”

  • TELL ME MORE

McTominay added on putting Napoli in contention for their second Serie A title in the space of three years: “It would mean the world, obviously the squad did it two years ago. We mustn’t get too high, as now we are leading the race, but we’ve got to keep calm, keep everything relaxed and go game by game. This game isn’t important unless we win the next and the one after that. So let’s stay calm and see where it gets us.”

    WHAT NEXT?

Napoli are now three points clear at the top of the table with four games remaining. They will be back in action on Saturday when taking in a trip to Lecce, with McTominay looking to end his debut campaign at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona with a flourish.
