Has Mason Greenwood been cleared to play for Jamaica? Reggae Boyz update as Marseille’s one-cap England international seeks to switch allegiance

The 23-year-old winger won his solitary senior cap for the Three Lions in a UEFA Nations League clash with Iceland in 2020. Troubles off the field since then have ruled Greenwood out of contention for further call-ups.

Talk of a move being made to the Jamaica camp has rumbled on for some time. Requests have been made to the relevant authorities, with the necessary paperwork in the process of being completed.

There is still no official word on when Greenwood will be given a green light to link up with the Reggae Boyz - who are now managed by ex-Manchester United coach and former England boss Steve McClaren.

Jamaica team manager Roy Simpson has told The Gleaner when asked for an update on the Greenwood saga: “Nothing has changed. It’s still being worked on. The family has asked us not to speak on it. But nothing has changed.”

Greenwood, who is now on the books of French giants Marseille, qualifies for Jamaica through his father. The Reggae Boyz have World Cup qualifiers with the British Virgin Islands and Guatemala on their immediate schedule, while also preparing to grace the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.
