The Red Devils continue to scour the market when it comes to shot-stopping options. They have invested heavily in Cameroon international Andre Onana, but he has made a number of costly errors across two seasons in England and is currently nursing an injury.
Getty/GOALWorld Cup winner Martinez is considered by many to be the No.1 upgrade that United need, with the divisive Argentine seemingly open to leaving Aston Villa and taking on a new challenge. The Red Devils are, however, finding it difficult to put a deal in place.
Lammens could be easier to acquire, but he would represent more of a gamble. Royal Antwerp are prepared to part with the 23-year-old, who is said to come with a price tag of between âŹ15 million and âŹ20m (ÂŁ17m/$23m).
Lammens believes he is ready for a big move, telling Gazet van Antwerpen: âManchester United are one of the best clubs, yes. But you never know. It could also be a different club, or who knows, I might stay here. In any case, I try to keep my feet on the ground. When teams like that come along, I think youâve earned it.â
He added: âI certainly have enough confidence in myself. I think the most important thing is that my future team, whenever they arrive, has a plan in place.
âIdeally, that means playing immediately, but itâs also possible Iâll have to take a step in between. As long as thereâs a plan, it doesnât matter whether Iâm ready for the next step or not. Everyone has their own career, their own path. Even if I donât take the right step right away, Iâll get there.â
GettyUnited have been told what they could be getting in Lammens, with Antwerp boss Stef Wils saying: âHe has everything a modern goalkeeper needs, and as a young lad, he still has room to grow in a major league. He exudes calm and inspires confidence in his defenders, a plus on high balls.â
The Red Devils are currently taking in a pre-season tour of the United States. Turkish keeper Altay Bayindir played the full 90 minutes in their 2-1 friendly win over West Ham, with Ruben Amorimâs side set to be back in action on Wednesday when taking on Bournemouth.
