    WHAT HAPPENED?

According to Sports Zone, the former Bayern Munich boss, who is currently at the helm of the German national team, is seen as a "prime candidate" to take over the reins at Old Trafford.

Nagelsmann, 35, garnered significant experience during his two-year tenure at Bayern Munich before parting ways with the club in March 2023. Despite his departure from Bayern, Nagelsmann swiftly found himself leading the German national team, succeeding his compatriot Hansi Flick. With his contract set to expire after the European Championships this summer, Nagelsmann could become available for new opportunities in club management.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Although United have shown signs of resurgence under Ten Hag after a lacklustre start to the season, the new co-owners are reportedly not convinced by his methods. And should part-owners INEOS opt for a managerial change at the end of the season, Nagelsmann is thought to be top of that list. His impressive track record in club football, which includes successful spells at Hoffenheim, RB Leipzig, and Bayern Munich, makes him an attractive prospect for United's new leadership.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Thomas Tuchel has reportedly also shown interest in taking over the reins at Old Trafford. With the former Chelsea boss set to be free in the summer, the German is keen to try his luck again in the English top flight, and may rival Nagelsmann for that position.

    WHAT NEXT FOR UNITED?

United's next fixture in the Premier League is against Fulham at home on Saturday. With the Red Devils currently sixth in the standings after 25 games - trailing five points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa - securing a victory against the Cottagers will be crucial in their pursuit of a Champions League spot. Following that league fixture, Ten Hag's side take on Nottingham Forest in an FA Cup fifth-round clash on Wednesday.
