Will Jose Mourinho do Man Utd a favour? Red Devils turn to Roma star Leonardo Spinazzola in left-back transfer hunt

The Portuguese coach spent two-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford before being unceremoniously sacked by the Red Devils in December 2018. He delivered Community Shield, Carabao Cup and Europa League glory during his time in Manchester, and United have taken a long time to rebuild since then.

That process remains ongoing, with current boss Erik ten Hag eager to bolster his ranks with a new left-back. United find themselves short in that area following an untimely injury suffered by Luke Shaw – with the England international joining Tyrell Malacia on the treatment table.

Italy international Spinazzola is now said to be registering on their radar, with Gianluca Di Marzio claiming that a raid on Roma is being lined up. It is considered to be unlikely that Mourinho would bow to the demands of his former employers, with transfer business proving tricky to complete at Stadio Olimpico.

United do have a number of alternative options on their left-back shopping list, with the Red Devils also being linked with a loan move for Chelsea outcast Marc Cucurella, Tottenham flop Sergio Reguillon, Lyon star Nicolas Tagliafico and Barcelona ace Marcos Alonso – who boasts Premier League experience from previous spells in England at Bolton, Sunderland and Chelsea.
