  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    WHAT MUSIALA SAID

The Germany international forward has, however, told Marca when asked if he has aspirations of one day matching the success enjoyed by all-time great Messi: “I don't know, I don't think I can compare myself at all with Messi and that is almost an impossible mission. I think comparing myself to Leo or any other player is in vain. I take my profession year by year and I continue working to try to be better and win titles for my team. Only then will they arrive safely.”

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

While Musiala is not looking to emulate Messi, he has always been a big fan of the Argentine superstar and tricky Brazilians that have also lit up Barcelona in the past. He added when asked about his idols: “Without a doubt, Messi and Ronaldinho. I have seen dozens and dozens of videos of them. I also had a [Zinedine] Zidane shirt when he was very little, number ten of the French national team. I grew up watching Leo and Neymar. They were my favourites because they entertained me a lot and brought a lot of joy to the game. I always stopped to see them: Leo scoring goals or Neymar doing those tricks with the ball. Then I would go to the garden and try to imitate them. I was always a fan of them.”
