RB Leipzig have put a turbulent week behind them in the most emphatic way possible. A 6-0 demolition of Eintracht Frankfurt at the Red Bull Arena has transformed the mood around the club after a difficult start to the season, and with it, the coaching debate that had been building in the background.

Just days before the win, reports from Sport Bild and Sky had placed Martin Demichelis under growing pressure following a run of three defeats in five games, including a damaging 1-4 Champions League loss to Como. Julian Nagelsmann, who led Leipzig between 2019 and 2021, was named as a potential replacement, with Sky reporting he had not ruled out a return. The speculation was real enough to require a public response.

That response came from Roger Schmidt, Red Bull's new Head of Global Soccer and successor to Jürgen Klopp in the role. Speaking on ZDF's Aktuelles Sportstudio, Schmidt denied Nagelsmann had been discussed internally and offered firm backing to Demichelis. The 6-0 result, he said, was exactly the kind of performance that makes continuity the right call.

The victory lifts Leipzig to fifth in the Bundesliga with nine points from five games, one behind fourth-placed Bayer Leverkusen. Demichelis now faces a defining stretch: PSV Eindhoven visit in the Champions League on Tuesday, followed by a Bundesliga trip to Bayern Munich and then Real Madrid in Europe.
