Michael Olise's eye-watering Bayern Munich wage revealed ahead of Crystal Palace transfer as reason for Chelsea's hesitance becomes clear

Olise is set to take home an estimated £220,000-a-week ($280,000) wage at Bayern and more than double his current wage at Palace, according to Christian Falk. The winger had seemed set on a move across the capital to join Chelsea, but Bayern have swooped in to trigger the £55m release clause in the player's contract.

The reason why Bayern were able to gain ground and gazump Chelsea in the market was because of Olise's release clause. The Bavarian giants were able to sneak in ahead of the Blues as the release clause could only be activated by sides playing in the Champions League. Chelsea, on the other hand, were unable to agree a deal with the Eagles and missed out on their man.

Chelsea have already begun making moves to snap up yet more young talent after missing out on Olise. They are likely to complete the signing of Aston Villa youngster Omari Kellyman in a £19m ($24m) move with Ian Maatsen going the other way for £37.5m ($47m).

Pre-season preparations for a new era under Enzo Maresca's stewardship will get underway next month with the Blues facing Wrexham in their first game of their tour of the USA on 24 July. They then face Celtic, Club America, Manchester City and Real Madrid to complete their American adventure.
