Socceroos Watch: Milos Degenek stars in Champions League upset over Liverpool

Australian defender Milos Degenek's fairytale season with Red Star Belgrade has continued after helping them secure a 2-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League.

Two goals inside 10 minutes in the first-half from Milan Pavkov put Red Star in control of the match with Liverpool lacking their usual sharpness in attack.

Despite spending much of the second half on the back foot, Belgrade would hang on relatively comfortably for a memorable victory.

Socceroos right-back Degenek was instrumental in defence for his side managing a game-high five interceptions and three blocks.

The 24-year-old was also key in Red Star's return to the UCL having laid on two assists in their final qualifying game.

Though a massive win for the club, it likely won't be enough for Belgrade to progress to the knockout stages after earlier heavy defeats to Napoli and Liverpool.

The three points does however give them some hope and means so much for the club and region.
