Croatia v England: Why Wednesday must be Harry Kane's day

Croatia v England
The Three Lions skipper has one more day to conquer

England will be hoping Wednesday turns out to be Harry Kane's day when the Three Lions tackle Croatia in their World Cup semi-final.

The England skipper has six goals to date in Russia, putting him two clear in the Golden Boot race, and is on the verge of becoming just the third player to score on every day of the week for the Three Lions.

Should he strike on Wednesday against Croatia, Kane will join Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard as the only other two players to bag goals for England on each day of the week.

It's a bizarre feat and one that Kane will likely need to achieve as he once again leads the way for a plucky England outfit.

While not scoring against Sweden in the quarter-finals, Kane was instrumental up front and continues to be the Three Lions key player.

Against a fatigued Croatian side that has been pushed to penalties in their past two games, England have a clear advantage and will look to Kane to make the most of it.

Whether it be yet another ice-cool penalty or a strike from a set-piece, a Wednesday goal for Kane stands to be decisive.

Unlike England, who have become reliant on one man for their goals, Croatia boast eight different goal scorers to date in Russia.

Striker Mario Mandzukic has been one of them and continues to play a big role in World Cup finals for his nation having been involved in four goals at this stage of the tournament.

England and Croatia have played each other just once before at a major tournament - with England claiming a 4-2 group-stage win at Euro 2004.

Fast forward 14 years and the pair are set for a much bigger showdown with a spot in the World Cup final up for grabs.
