Commentary

That concludes our commentary of the Serie A fixture between Juventus and Atalanta! We hope you’ve enjoyed it!
Juventus are in action again next Sunday, when they host Monza. Atalanta return home on Saturday to welcome Sampdoria to the Gewiss Stadium
90 minutes is not enough to separate Juventus and Atalanta, who combine for six goals split evenly. Lookman’s opener just five minutes after the opening kick-off sparked a goal-laden game that would see the Bianconeri overcome the deficit to take a 2-1 lead into the half-time interval, thanks to a penalty from Di Maria and a volley from Milik. The visitors were once again quickest out of the blocks after the start of play, with Maehle taking just 30 seconds to restore parity with a lovely feathered touch into the far post. Former Leicester City forward Lookman would get his second goal and his third contribution of the game less than 10 minutes later with a powerful header, but Allegri’s side would not be beaten, with Danilo stepping up to smash a low drive past Musso after Di Maria’s free-kick layoff. A contender for match of the season, the tie leaves Atalanta in fourth and Juventus in 12th.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: JUVENTUS 3-3 ATALANTA.
H. Hateboer
Yellow Card
90' + 3' Hateboer doesn't go unnoticed as he's also shown a yellow card for his foul that caused the scrum.
F. Chiesa
Yellow Card
90' + 3' A bit of a shoving match breaks out after a Hateboer foul on Chiesa, with the Juventus winger not happy with the physical treatment. The referee looks to diffuse the situation and shows the Italy international a yellow card for his reaction.
90' + 2' Ruggeri drives to the byline and looks to play a cross in towards Muriel but it’s blocked by Danilo, doing just enough in the process to keep it in play for Szczesny to smother.
90' The fourth official indicates four minutes will be added to the end of the match for stoppages.
88' Juventus are keeping Atalanta deep in their own half, forcing the visitors to try and find the answers under immediate pressure. Toloi takes the cautious option and hoofs it long to Lookman, who wins a free-kick from Locatelli for his troubles.
86' Bremer lays the ball off to Locatelli, who slips as he looks to dispatch his shot from 20 yards out. In the end it’s an easy effort for Musso to deal with, played low into the path of the goalkeeper.
M. Ruggeri
J. Mæhle
84' Maehle comes off with a goal to his name, to be replaced by Ruggeri.
B. Djimsiti
Éderson
83' Ederson was booked earlier and will be protected, making way for Djimsiti.
L. Muriel
R. Højlund
83' Hojlund's match comes to an end after 83 minutes. Muriel is tasked with leading the line for the rest of the game.
J. Cuadrado
N. Fagioli
81' Cuadrado gets 10 minutes to make his mark, with Fagioli making way.
80' Juventus have now conceded eight goals in just under two matches, after a spell of eight-consecutive clean sheets. They have now lost the best defensive record in the top flight to Napoli, who have conceded one fewer than the Bianconeri’s tally of 15.
78' Lookman takes a corner short to Hateboer, who promptly returns the ball to the forward. The ensuing cross is not of the desired standard however, with Bremer there to nod it away easily.
76' Chiesa, who started a Serie A match for the first time in 369 days last time out, has found the net in two of his last three Serie A home appearances against Atalanta (February 2020 for Fiorentina and December 2020 for Juventus). Atalanta are one of the four sides currently in the competition against whom he has scored more than two goals, along with Milan (3), Sampdoria (4) and Bologna (6).
M. Kean
A. Milik
74' Allegri makes a straight swap at striker, with Kean replacing Milik.
F. Miretti
Á. Di María
74' Miretti comes on for Di Maria, who played a pivitol role in all of Juve's creative moves.
74' Lookman’s corner comes all the way through to Ederson at the edge of the penalty area, but the volleyed attempt is blocked before it could reach the goalkeeper.
72' GREAT SAVE! De Roon puts all his power behind his strike, forcing Szczesny into a diving save, pushing it behind for a corner in the process.
70' Chiesa drives to the byline before cutting back on his right foot and firing a cross to the far post for Milik but Scalvini uses his strength to win the ball in the air.
68' There’s no telling where the points will go with just over 20 minutes left, with both sides squandering leads in the second half. Both Allegri and Gasperini must be pleased with how clinical their teams have been in front of goal but also worried at the ease in which the defences are being penetrated.
M. Pašalić
J. Boga
66' Pasalic replaces Boga in the aftermath of Juventus' third goal.
Á. Di María
Assist
65' Di Maria gets an assist to add to his earlier goal, with the World Cup winner instrumental in every Juventus attack today.
Danilo
Goal
65' ANOTHER TWIST IN THE TALE! 3-3! INCREDIBLE! Di Maria looks to step up and take the free-kick but he instead lays it off behind him for Danilo, with the Juventus captain striking a low first-time effort that gets past the wall and beats the outstretched hand of Musso!
63' De Roon charges through Locatelli and brings him down, giving Juventus a free-kick in a central position 20 yards from goal.
F. Chiesa
F. Kostić
61' Chiesa is sent in for Kostic with just under 30 minutes remaining.
59' Lookman gets past a combination of Kostic and Locatelli but his final pass in to the feet of Hojlund is intercepted by Bremer.
57' Boga drives through acres of space in midfield and finds Maehle, who gets into the penalty area before returning the ball to the forward 20 yards from goal. The number 10 immediately looks to curl a shot into the far corner but the effort is blocked immediately by the outstretched leg of Sandro.
55' Juventus are immediately on the hunt for an equaliser through Di Maria, who finds the head of Bremer with a lovely, curling corner-kick. The centre-back is first to it but he pops his chance up and over the crossbar from close range despite the goalkeeper losing the flight of the ball!
J. Boga
Assist
53' Boga's accurate cross is the assist for Atalanta's third goal of the game!
A. Lookman
Goal
53' LOOKMAN GIVES ATALANTA THE LEAD AGAIN! 3-2! What a match! Boga gets free on the left wing and moves Danilo to and fro before digging out a cross towards the penalty spot. Lookman rises highest to attack the delivery and puts his clinical header past Szczesny!
52' Atalanta are one of the three sides to have picked up the most Serie A points in 2023 (seven, level with Inter and Roma), scoring 12 goals in the process, at least five more than any other side.
50' Di Maria’s curling cross into the penalty area from the free-kick is headed away immediately by Toloi.
Éderson
Yellow Card
49' Ederson's cynical pull on Sandro's jersey is one challenge too many for the referee, who shows the Atalanta midfielder a yellow card.
48' Atalanta have started both halves with extreme intensity, scoring within five minutes of each kick-off. They’ll need to maintain this level of workrate if they wish to take all three points from Allianz Stadium, where no team has won in Serie A since April 2022.
A. Lookman
Assist
46' Lookman adds an assist to his earlier goal as the visitors get back level.
J. Mæhle
Goal
46' MAEHLE RESTORES PARITY AFTER 30 SECONDS! 2-2! A mistake at the back is punished by Atalanta, with Danilo’s sloppy pass into midfield cut out almost immediately by Scalvini. The centre-back finds Lookman with a square pass and the forward immediately pushes it through the lines for the run of Maehle. The wing-back puts the slightest of touches on his shot - just enough to feather it into the far corner!
46' Juventus get the match restarted from the kick-off!
Allegri will have absolutely no qualms about holding onto the lead, with a number of experienced players at his disposal from the bench including Paredes and Cuadrado. It will be a defence-first approach from Juventus, who will also look to stretch legs as the match wears on with Chiesa. Atalanta have no other option but to attack, with the likes of Muriel and Pasalic ready and waiting to make an impact. They will continue to flood forward and press their opponents high, looking for easy opportunities to test Szczesny.
Juventus overcome an early deficit to take a lead into the half-time interval at Allianz Stadium, thanks to goals from both of their forwards: Di Maria and Milik. Lookman’s near-post strike after just five minutes looked to heap more misery onto a Juventus side that largely failed to settle into the game. The turning point seemed to be an injury for Palomino, which necessitated the introduction of former Bianconeri Demiral. Within 20 minutes of the substitution, Allegri’s team had put themselves ahead thanks to a cool penalty from the Argentina international and a first-time volley from Milik - his sixth of the campaign.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: JUVENTUS 2-1 ATALANTA.
45' + 2' Lookman impressively gets past three Juventus defenders in an attempt to break into the penalty area but Rabiot’s strong and firm challenge wins the ball back for the hosts.
45' The fourth official indicates four minutes will be added to the end of the half for stoppages.
43' Maehle teases a cross towards the six-yard box for Hojlund but Bremer beats the striker in the air to clear his lines.
41' Milik’s cushioned header sets the ball up perfectly for Rabiot but the France international midfielder sends his shot high and wide of Musso’s target.
40' Hojlund threads a lovely pass into the penalty area for Boga but the forward’s centring pass from the byline is turned away by the organised Juventus defence.
38' Atalanta have picked up the fewest points in Serie A meetings between the current top seven sides in the table this season (4); Juventus have gained seven points from such games, each of them at home.
36' Locatelli is pleading with the referee to show Ederson a card after the midfielder is whistled for dragging down his opponent. The Atalanta player can count himself a bit fortunate after also giving away the penalty earlier.
N. Fagioli
Assist
34' Fagioli is credited with the assist for Juve's go-ahead goal, whipping in an accurate cross for Milik to score his sixth of the season.
A. Milik
Goal
34' JUVENTUS TAKE THE LEAD! 2-1! Atalanta lose possession in their own half after Juve’s unsuccessful corner-kick, which gives the visitors numbers inside opposition territory. Fagioli is given time and space on the right wing and he picks out a lovely cross for Milik, who volleys home at the first time of asking!
33' McKennie and Di Maria combine well down the right wing, providing room to run for the United States international. De Roon comes across to help out his defence and whacks it behind for a corner.
31' Boga gets another chance at a corner-kick but it fails to produce any danger as Toloi heads it over the bar from his position at the near post.
29' Milik’s awkward sliding challenge in midfield misses the ball and catches Scalvini, giving Atalanta a free-kick, which slows down the tempo of play temporarily.
27' Boga’s corner from the right flag is put deep towards Lookman but a diving Sandro header clears the initial danger.
Á. Di María
Penalty Goal
25' NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! 1-1! Di Maria steps up coolly and dispatches his penalty into the bottom corner, sending Musso the wrong way in the process! It’s all tied up at Allianz Stadium!
24' PENALTY TO JUVENTUS! The match official has a quick look at the monitor before coming back onto the pitch and pointing to the spot. Ederson is deemed to have made contact with Fagioli, giving Juve a chance to level the match from the penalty spot!
22' Ederson dives into a sliding challenge inside his own penalty area and catches Fagioli, who goes down in a heap immediately during an attempt to get onto the loose ball. The referee is in a perfect position to see it and waves to play on but there is a VAR check in the aftermath of the incident.
20' Atalanta are pressing high at every opportunity, making sure to limit the passing lanes available when Szczesny chooses to play his kicks short. There will certainly be opportunities for the visitors to test the goalkeeper if they keep up this intensity, with Juve struggling to play around it.
18' Di Maria’s inswinging corner towards McKennie is punched behind for a second set-piece by Musso at his far post.
17' Danilo hits a lovely pass over the top for Rabiot, who made his run through midfield in the space vacated by Milik, but Scalvini’s careful shepherding puts it out for a corner.
15' Di Maria drops his shoulder and easily gets by both Ederson and Toloi but the ensuing left-footed effort is far too easy for Musso to save.
M. Demiral
J. Palomino
15' Palomino goes down off the ball and immediately signals for a change, with the centre-back limping off the pitch shaking his head. Demiral readies himself and enters the game in his place as Atalanta are forced into a change after 15 minutes.
13' Ederson clips a cross into the penalty area for Hojlund, who sends his header just wide of the target from the penalty spot.
12' Di Maria’s outswinging corner is taken deep towards Milik but Palomino rises highest to temporarily clear the danger. The ball bounces out to Locatelli 25 yards from goal but the midfielder’s rushed shot sails high and wide of the target.
11' Ederson intercepts a passing triangle in midfield, sending Atalanta on the counter-attack. Boga gets forward and looks to beat his man before going down just outside the penalty area but again the match official instructs the sides to continue playing.
9' Boga again slaloms through the heart of midfield and looks to slip a pass through the lines for the run of Hojlund but a desperate slide from McKennie does enough to intercept the connection.
7' Juventus are furiously protesting for a penalty after a tangle of legs between Milik and Palomino leaves the striker down in a heap inside Atalanta’s penalty area. The referee urges play to continue but there will no doubt be a check from VAR.
J. Boga
Assist
5' Boga's clever pass to Lookman is the assist for Atalanta's opener.
A. Lookman
Goal
4' LOOKMAN GIVES ATALANTA THE LEAD! 1-0! It's a perfect start for the visitors, with Boga allowed to get to the edge of Juve's 18-yard box under little pressure. The forward looks up and shifts the ball to his right for Lookman, who puts it on his right foot before taking an acute-angle shot that beats Szczesny at his near post!
4' Milik beats the offside trap and manages to win an inch of space ahead of Scalvini before dragging a low shot that fails to beat Musso.
2' De Roon sends a lovely switch of play over the top of the defence for Hojlund from the left wing but the tandem of Sandro and Szczesny combine to ensure the goalkeeper is first to the ball.
1' Atalanta get the match underway from the kick-off!
Atalanta make three changes to the side that hammered Salernitana 8-2. An injury to Davide Zappacosta gives Hateboer a chance to start at wing-back, while Ederson and Maehle come in for Teun Koopmeiners and Ruggeri.
Juventus make just one change to the XI that lost 5-1 to Napoli, with Fagioli coming into midfield for Chiesa, pushing McKennie out to the wing.
ATALANTA SUBS: Francesco Rossi, Matteo Ruggeri, Brandon Soppy, Nadir Zortea, Berat Djimsiti, Marco Sportiello, Luis Muriel, Caleb Okoli, Mario Pasalic, Merih Demiral, Lukas Vorlicky.
ATALANTA XI (3-4-2-1): Juan Musso; Giorgio Scalvini, Jose Luis Palomino, Rafael Toloi; Hans Hateboer, Marten De Roon, Ederson, Joakim Maehle; Ademola Lookman, Jeremie Boga; Rasmus Hojlund.

With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, let’s take a look at how the two sides are lining up - starting with our hosts!
Atalanta have been on a scintillating run of form, beating Salernitana 8-2 last weekend before putting five past Spezia in the Coppa Italia. Gian Piero Gasperini’s team sit just outside the Champions League places on 34 points, three back of Roma in fourth.
Juventus’ eight-match winning run came to a screeching halt last Friday, when the Bianconeri were battered 5-1 at the hands of league-leading Napoli. Things went from bad to worse during the week for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who have been handed a 15-point deduction - dropping Juve down into 10th place despite 11 victories this season.
