  • WHAT HAPPENED?

That is the opinion of former Red Dragons defender Frank Sinclair. He has been among the interested observers as a Hollywood-led project in North Wales has delivered a historic run of three successive promotions.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Wrexham have cleared every hurdle placed in front of them so far, but life in the Championship will pose an entirely different set of challenges. It has been confirmed that a fifth series of the club’s award-winning documentary has been given a green light.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

That show has attracted a global fan base, but success is easy to sell. What would happen if Wrexham were to stagnate in the second tier of English football, or potentially be relegated back down into the third?

    WHAT FRANK SINCLAIR SAID

Quizzed on whether that would lead to supporters and co-owners losing interest, Sinclair - speaking in association with pikakasinot.com - told GOAL: “It depends how deep you are into football. For me, the glory that has been the documentary etc and the press around Wrexham in the last three years, I would still be interested in how they come back from a little bit of adversity and how they tackle that sort of situation.

“There are a lot of people who jump on the bandwagon when things are going really well. Just from my taste of the community, in and around Wrexham when I played there for a couple of seasons, they are real supporters. They have been able to galvanise them and keep that real support within this new community that Wrexham have been able to establish.”

  • TELL ME MORE

Wrexham are chasing the dream of one day reaching the Premier League - delivering more drama for their documentary along the way. Asked if more billionaire investors, rather than rich friends, will be required to join Reynolds and McElhenney on that path, Sinclair added: “When you look at the revenue that Wrexham have brought in over the last three seasons, they have been able to cope at the levels they have been playing at.

“The documentary and everything, excellent revenue and has opened up thinking outside the box to produce that revenue. I thought that was genius - one of the first clubs to do that with a documentary and get fans across the board and around the world - especially overseas in America - backing Wrexham.

“I think Wrexham is the third-most worn jersey in America, behind Man United and Real Madrid. It just shows where they are at right now as a club and what they have to still do. But the thing I like about the owners - Rob, I’ve watched stuff where he’s spoken to people on YouTube etc, and they play down the expectations.

“I think they’ve gone far beyond with three promotions on the spin, I don’t think that was the expectations of the football club. I think they probably had something more realistic like a 5-10 year plan to get into the Premier League, not in four seasons!

“I feel like next season will be a situation where stabilisation in the Championship would be a good idea, just to lower the expectations of the fans. You can always get excited with what you have achieved and what you are able to achieve again going forward. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.”

    WHAT NEXT FOR WREXHAM?

Reynolds and McElhenney have helped to fund a meteoric rise for Wrexham, with more money expected to be spent in the summer transfer window of 2025. The Red Dragons are already being linked with several big names that would add top-flight pedigree to Phil Parkinson’s squad.
