Nightmare for Mason Greenwood as Man Utd loanee receives straight red card for dissent to leave Getafe with nine men against Rayo Vallecano

Greenwood received his marching orders early in the second half of the game at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, with the hosts already 2-0 nil down and playing with 10 men following an earlier red card for Juanmi Latasa. The Manchester United loanee was issued with a straight red card for dissent, leaving Getafe to play with just nine men for the rest of the game.

The red card will obviously be a blow to Greenwood as he bids his resurrect his career in La Liga with Getafe after his exit from Manchester United. Greenwood has been making an impact this season, scoring three goals and bagging four assists in La Liga so far this term. His performances have even led to speculation that big clubs such as Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are interested in his services. Manchester United are set to discuss his future in January, although GOAL understands his loan deal does not a break clause.

No team in Europe's top five leagues have received more red cards than Getafe this season, with Greenwood the eighth player to be handed his marching orders for Jose Bordalas's side in 2023-24. Getafe also saw Damian Suarez shown a red card in the closing stages, although he had already been substituted.

Greenwood can now expect a ban for his red card against Rayo and will be forced onto the sidelines. The team's next fixture is against Espanyol in the Copa del Rey on January 6.
