Goncalo Ramos says he's staying at PSG after UEFA Super Cup heroics despite Newcastle and Saudi Arabia interest

PSG won their first Super Cup in a scenario that seemed beyond their control, before Ramos came off the bench to score a late equaliser as the French side overturned a 0–2 deficit before winning 3-2 on penalties. After the match, the saviour of the Parisian club made a decisive announcement about his future, confirming he will remain at the club this season.

Tottenham controlled the match for nearly 85 minutes, with PSG struggling to trouble the English defence. Then Luis Enrique introduced Ramos, and moments later, the Portuguese striker burst into the box to head home a powerful cross from Ousmane Dembele. A precise, crisp move right in stoppage time brought PSG level with Spurs at the very end of the match. Ramos then confidently slotted home his penalty in the shootout, confirming his decisive role in the final. 

The Portuguese international played 22 Ligue 1 matches, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists last season. He had sent a direct message after the intense game that puts an end to the rumours of his departure. While interest from Newcastle and Saudi Arabia offered tempting alternatives, the 24-year-old insists he is fully focused on the club’s ambitions. His decision comes at a crucial moment for PSG, who are balancing domestic dominance with a renewed push for Champions League glory.

Since his arrival in 2023 from Benfica, Ramos has often started big matches on the bench, a situation that could frustrate many players. But not this time. Speaking in the mixed zone, he first explained: "My entry? I'm ready when the team needs me. When I receive the ball like that, I score."

When asked about his future, he was clear: "Yes, I confirm that I am staying this season."

PSG visit Nantes in their opening Ligue 1 game on Sunday. Under Enrique, the Parisians have one of the most astute tacticians in world football, a coach who has already guided the club to European glory and is capable of executing plans designed to deliver even greater success.

They will look to launch their league campaign with the same intensity and resilience they displayed in the Super Cup final, refusing to rest on their laurels.
