Could Man City match Arsenal's ‘Invincibles’? Pep Guardiola and Co have a 'dream' to remain unbeaten for a full season as champions are backed to go close after finding a way to win without Rodri

Catalan coach Guardiola has overseen an era of dominance at the Etihad Stadium – with his stunning trophy collection including six Premier League titles, two FA Cup wins, four League Cup triumphs, a Champions League crown, UEFA Super Cup success and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Last season saw City become the first side in English top-flight history to secure four successive domestic titles, with an unbeaten start being made to the defence of that prize in 2024-25. The reigning champions remain the team to beat, with everybody else in the process of trying to chase them down.

Just about the only thing that Guardiola has not achieved is going a full Premier League season without suffering defeat – having picked up two losses en route to collecting 100 points in 2017-18. Quizzed on whether City are best placed to emulate Arsenal’s legendary side from 2003-24, former Blues captain Richard Dunne – speaking in association with online bingo site, Heart Bingo – told GOAL: “Out of all the teams in the Premier League at the moment, 100 per cent they are. That’s almost the next thing. They have achieved everything they have set out to do over the last few years and the squad that they have got, they take every competition seriously.

“You would imagine that somewhere in the back of their mind they must be thinking ‘we’d like to do that and achieve what Arsenal did’. You wouldn’t put it past them because they are such a difficult side to beat. They have found a way this season of winning games without Rodri and being strong, so that’s a positive sign for them. It’s obviously the most difficult thing in the Premier League to do, as only one side has done it, it is hard but I’m sure there is a dream there.”

City have picked up nine points from three games this season, scoring nine goals in the process – with prolific frontman Erling Haaland already boasting seven efforts to his name. Guardiola’s side will be back in action on Saturday when playing host to Brentford.
