The Arsenal winger was one of those to successfully convert his penalty in a thrilling shootout with Switzerland at Euro 2024. Saka – who failed from the spot in the final of Euro 2020 – earned international redemption when helping to fire the Three Lions into another semi-final.

With Southgate eager to keep the mood in his camp light, while easing the pressure that continues to be lumped onto collective shoulders, players have been given a chance to indulge in some alternative sporting activities.

Many of those in the England fold fancy themselves on the fairways, meaning that golf was always going to provide a popular distraction. Saka initially showed that he is as competent hitting a ball with a club as he is his left foot, but then took an embarrassing tumble which turned applause into fits of laughter.

Saka’s pride was the only thing that took a hit when falling face first onto the floor, with no untimely injuries being suffered by England’s star turns. They will be back in action on Wednesday when facing the Netherlands at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.
