Baranovichi Overview

Cristiano Ronaldo has been included in Portugal's preliminary squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures despite a high-profile falling out with head coach Jorge Jesus. The veteran forward's inclusion follows a controversial period in which he abandoned the national team camp during the previous international break.

Cristiano Ronaldo has avoided missing any international matches despite receiving a 30-day suspension and a financial penalty from the Portugal Football Federation. The forward was punished for abandoning the national team camp midway through the recent international break following a disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus, but the backdated ban means he remains available.

Portugal Football Federation (FPF) president Pedro Proenca believes captain Cristiano Ronaldo remains a key player for the national team despite his recent suspension. Proenca is confident the veteran forward will resolve his explosive disagreement with head coach Jorge Jesus.

Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has strongly criticised ex-teammate Cristiano Ronaldo after the veteran forward abandoned the Portugal national team camp during the recent international window. The retired England international questioned how his old Old Trafford colleague handled the public fallout with head coach Jorge Jesus.
