Singh: Bafana Bafana call-up came two years early

Portugal-based striker Luther Singh says he didn’t expect to be called up so soon.

“It’s been a busy six months. It’s a dream come true to play for Bafana. I never saw myself playing Bafana at age 19. My target was 21,"  Singh told The Sowetan.

“But then again, I have worked hard, so I’m not surprised,” he said after arriving at the OR Tambo airport from Zambia on Monday.

Singh helped Amajita book their place at the Under-20 Fifa World Cup finals in South Korea in May after they recahed the semi-finals of the recent U20 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Zambia where they finished fourth.

“I’ll get the opportunity to be with Keagan Dolly. There’s Thulani Serero as well. I have looked up to these players. Training with them will be a big thing for me,” Singh said.

Furthermore, given Bafana’s goal-scoring crisis, Singh is keen to help resolve this problem that has plagued the side for many years.

“Scoring has always been part of my game. It’s something I have to take there (to Bafana),” Singh concluded.

Singh, who plies his trade with SC Braga, will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of legendary striker Benni McCarthy, who is still Bafana's all-time top goal-scorer.
