Casemiro admits he was 'sad' to see Cristiano Ronaldo leave Man Utd

WHAT HAPPENED? The news of Ronaldo's departure from United came after club football had paused for the ongoing World Cup. Speaking ahead of Brazil's second group match against Switzerland, Casemiro revealed that while he hadn't been in contact with Ronaldo, he was sad to see him go and wished him all the best for his next endeavours.

WHAT THEY SAID: “I haven’t exchanged any messages with him, but Cristiano Ronaldo is a player with great experience, and he knows what’s best for his career,” Casemiro said. “Of course we are sad a player like him is leaving because we are talking about one of the best players of all time. I wish him all the best in his football career - except when he plays against me - but I wish him all the best."

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Both Ronaldo and Casemiro got off to winning starts in Qatar. Ronaldo scored in the fifth World Cup of his career as Portugal scraped past Ghana 3-2, while Casemiro played the full 90 in Brazil's opening day victory against Serbia.
