Time for Wrexham?! Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney given transfer boost as Arsenal confirm Arthur Okonkwo exit as free agent

The 22-year-old goalkeeper enjoyed a productive loan spell at SToK Racecourse during the 2023-24 campaign. Having been drafted in to help counter the retirement of ex-England international Ben Foster, Okonkwo became a key figure for the Red Dragons in their League Two promotion push.

Wrexham have made no secret of the fact that they would like to welcome Okonkwo back to North Wales after seeing him hit free agency, with Arsenal announcing on their official website that the promising goalkeeper forms part of a 22-man group that has been released – with Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares also on that list.

Okonkwo has been giving little away when it comes to his future, telling The Athletic when asked about his plans: “I haven’t looked too much into things at the moment. But I will, very soon. It is about looking at all my opportunities and seeing which is the best for me. I’ve loved it at Wrexham and they will stay in my heart forever. It’s more of a waiting game now and seeing what is the right move for myself.”

Questions have been asked of whether Wrexham could afford Okonkwo’s wages – as a player that has been on the books of Premier League heavyweights – but Hollywood chairmen Reynolds and McElhenney are making the funds available that allow manager Phil Parkinson and a loyal fanbase to dream big.
