Welcome to Wrexham star Arthur Massey dies aged 100 as club and fans pay tribute to Second World War veteran

After Massey's daughter Julie Birrell revealed the centenarian had passed away on Thursday, Wrexham fans and more sent their respects to him and his family. The League One team led tributes to Massey after Birrell posted a photo of him on X and wrote: "14/3/24 - 8/8/24. RIP Dad 💔."

Wrexham tweeted: "Everybody at Wrexham AFC is extremely saddened to learn of the passing of life-long supporter Arthur Massey, aged 100. All our thoughts are with Arthur’s family and friends at this time. Forever a Wrexham supporter."

Among the many supporters, Wrexham fan @NoobGoneBadX tweeted: "Condolences to his family. At least this man got to see 2 promotions after many years of heartache. He will forever be in the hearts of many people around the world!"

The documentary's producer Bryan Swarberg wrote: "Incredibly sorry for your loss. His was a life well lived. He was a great man. Love to you and the family."

Red Dragons supporter Giacomo Cobianchi added: "So sorry for your loss. He will always be remembered by the Wrexham fans all over the world. Sincere condolences to you and the family."

Massey became a fan favourite on the Welcome to Wrexham show, with the Welsh outfit presenting him with a special '100' shirt after his 100th birthday in March. The war veteran supported the club for more than 90 years and was previously described as "Wrexham royalty" by co-owner Rob McElhenney. The amount of well-wishers paying their respects shows how well-liked he was by all. He also got to see his beloved Wrexham secure back-to-back promotions before he passed away.

Massey - who met King Charles during the monarch's visit to Wrexham in 2022 - passed away just over a day before Wrexham return to League One, nearly 19 years after they last played in the division. They begin their campaign at home to Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday evening.
