Ryan Reynolds & Rob McElhenney make ‘resources’ available for January transfers! Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson explains how winter window will be tackled

Hollywood co-owners in North Wales funded more lavish recruitment during the summer of 2024, with transfer records being smashed at SToK Racecourse. Shrewd spending has allowed the Red Dragons to piece together an ambitious promotion push in League One.

Another opportunity to add has now presented itself, with Parkinson and Co having been piecing together January plans for some time. There has been talk of Wrexham launching raids for another striker, amid links to Leeds’ England international frontman Patrick Bamford and Plymouth star Ryan Hardie.

Parkinson has told CBS Sports Golazo when asked about supposed bids for further firepower: “We're always looking to see if a player comes available who we think can improve us as we've got the resources to try and get that player. But equally, we've got Jack Marriott, who did really well for us at the start of the season, coming back in a couple of weeks as well.

“I don't bring someone in for the sake of it and disrupt the group, but we're looking all the time, and speak to clubs and agents. If we feel they can add that extra bit of quality, which might help us get over the line at the end of the season then of course we will go for that.”

With Championship football the next target to be chased down, Parkinson admits that he will continue to explore ways of bringing in talent that helps to push Wrexham forward. He added: “Some key players left us in the summer, and you have to keep moving forward and recruiting players who are ready for this level, but also the level above as well. To get out of divisions, you need players whose quality is above the level you're operating at.

“The club is very fair to all the players and everyone is looked after. But as a manager, I've got to make sure that we keep evolving the squad and improving in all areas.”

Wrexham sit third in the League One table at present, level on points with second-placed Wycombe, and believe that minor tinkering early in 2025 will help them to make history by securing a third successive promotion.
