Liverpool lose ground! Arne Slot unsure on deal to sign Lutsharel Geertruida, leaving Tottenham in pole position to snap up defender also targeted by PSG

The Netherlands international, who recently appeared against France in Euro 2024, was linked with a move to Anfield this summer, however, according to the Mirror, new manager Slot has reportedly disapproved of the deal as he remains unsure about making the Feyenoord star his first signing. Slot rates Geertruida very highly but he does not want to repeat Erik ten Hag's mistake of bringing too many players to the Premier League from the Eredivisie.

The report further adds that Slot's reluctance to sign the 23-year-old has now made Tottenham Hotspur the favourites in the transfer race. Spurs regularly scouted the player last season and they remain confident of bringing him to England instead of Paris. Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in Geertruida, however, they have to sell at least two defensive players before they can go after him.

Bundesliga side RB Leipzig tried to sign the Dutchman last summer but saw their offer worth £25m (€29m/$31m) getting rejected as Feyenoord demanded a fee in the region of £35m (€41m/$44m).

The Reds are set to regroup next month under Slot and will jet off to the US for pre-season where they will face Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United.
