'Icing on the cake' - Harry Kane told Tottenham statue awaits if he seals homecoming transfer from Bayern Munich

Spurs’ all-time leading goalscorer bid farewell to north London in the summer of 2023. His status as a club legend is secure, but there has been talk of professional steps being retraced at some stage.

England captain Kane left his homeland in order to win major silverware, and achieved that in 2024-25 when becoming a Bundesliga title winner in Germany - a matter of weeks before Spurs broke their own barren run on the trophy front with a Europa League triumph.

Kane has offered no indication that he is planning an imminent return to the Premier League - where he could still chase down Alan Shearer’s historic goal mark - but that might be something he considers in windows to come.

Former Spurs team-mate Aaron Lennon hopes that will be the case, telling the Radio Times: “I'd love to see it. I think that would be the icing on the cake for Harry to finish at Spurs. He is a Spurs boy through and through.

“He loves the football club, he's idolised by the fans. There will probably be a statue of Harry one day, especially if he comes back. I'd love to see him come back once he's won a few trophies.”

Lennon added when asked if Kane’s success at Bayern is well deserved, with a long wait for tangible success finally coming to a close: “100 per cent. What a player. I was fortunate to play Harry when he was a young boy, coming through, breaking into the team.

“We could all see his quality from then, but what he's gone on to do, it's not surprising, because of the pro he already was at that age, but like I said, he deserves it. I'm buzzing for him.”

Kane has won back-to-back Golden Boots in the Bundesliga and should reach 100 goals in total for Bayern at some point next season. He also has three figures in his sights with England, having raised a record-setting bar with the Three Lions to 71 efforts and counting.
