Bruno Fernandes says Man Utd red card 'one of the hardest' moments as captain speaks out in wake of draw against Porto

The Portugal international was sent off in United's 3-0 Premier League loss to Tottenham last weekend, which was later overturned, and then again in their 3-3 Europa League draw with Porto on Thursday. Now, the 30-year-old has taken to social media to talk about this "tough" moment, while thanking fans for their positive messages.

He posted on Instagram: "Tough moment as a team and personally for me, one of the hardest. Almost 5 years at the club with ups and downs, good and bad moments. Personally, I have always had challenges and adversities throughout my career and something that’s never happened was that I go silent or hide myself from responsibilities in difficult moments. I know it sounds cliche and most of you United fans will be tired of it, but no one is more disappointed than myself with my own moment. Even through this moment, I appreciate all of you that had positive messages of belief in me and the team."

Fernandes will miss United's next Europa League match away to Fenerbahce on October 24. Aside from the red card drama, he is yet to score for Erik ten Hag's side this season. The Red Devils need his form and their results to improve quickly.

The midfielder will be available to take on Aston Villa on Sunday in the Premier League. He and many of his team-mates will then head off for international duty, with Portugal in Nations League action over the next fortnight.
