Geoff Cameron is switching clubs in the Championship, having agreed a loan move to Queens Park Rangers.

The 33-year-old defender/midfielder has spent the past six years in the Premier League with Stoke City but will now head out for the season to their Championship rivals.

Cameron was expected to depart Stoke after the club's relegation from the Premier League last season.

“I’m extremely excited and happy to be here. It’s a fresh start and new beginning for me,” Cameron told QPR’s official website.

“I decided over the summer that I wanted a change and something new. The boss here has been interested in me before and I’m excited to play for him.

“He wanted me here which is always a big part when they believe in your ability. I want to help the team and get us up the table.”

Cameron will aim to bounceback this season after he endured a trying 2017-18 campaign both for club and country.

His club season saw him start just 17 games and play in only 20, as his time on the field decreased under Paul Lambert after Mark Hughes' sacking.

The Potters finished second from the bottom of the Premier League and were relegated to the second division.

On the international level, Cameron was part of the United States team that failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

After that failure, Cameron publicly feuded with former USMNT manager Bruce Arena, after Arena dropped Cameron to the bench for the final two games of the qualifying campaign.

Cameron has not been recalled to the national team since the October 2017 loss to Trinidad and Tobago which eliminated the USMNT

Arena also questioned Cameron’s locker-room presence, but his veteran leadership is seen as a plus by QPR boss Steve McClaren.

“He has great pedigree, is an international and will be a valuable asset to the development of our team,” McClaren told the club’s website.

Cameron will wear the No.5 and will make the squad for QPR’s weekend fixture against Birmingham.
