Tijjani Reijnders wrote a new chapter in his footballing story with a hefty dose of sarcasm. The Netherlands international scored for Al-Qadsiah against Neom on Monday evening, then celebrated with a message that pointed straight back at his time with Manchester City.
Reijnders, who joined Al-Qadsiah from Manchester City this summer, drove his side to a 2-0 win over Neom in the third round of the Saudi Roshn League.
On his official Instagram account, the Dutchman posted: "It seemed the series had been cancelled, but the surprise.. it has moved to another channel. Season two, episode one." The message nodded to the fact that his journey had carried on despite his exit from City after just one season.
"Season one" dates back to the start of Reijnders' spell with Manchester City. He scored his first goal in a City shirt against Wolverhampton on the opening weekend of last season's Premier League, and celebrated with a message that read: "Season one.. episode one," marking the beginning of his adventure with the Citizens.
The series ended sooner than the Dutchman expected. He left after just one campaign, moving to Al-Qadsiah for a fresh start in the Saudi League. That prompted some fans to mock his earlier celebration and the "season one.. episode one" message.
Reijnders chose to answer that mockery in his own way. After scoring for Al-Qadsiah against Neom, he announced the start of "season two", this time from a different place, in a message dripping with sarcasm and confidence. The point was clear: his journey had not ended when he left Manchester City.
With that, Reijnders turned his move from City to Al-Qadsiah into a brand new series. He reused the same idea from a year earlier, only with a change of channel and cast, opening "season two" of his footballing story with a first episode that bore his signature on Neom's net.
