Odegaard discusses permanent Arsenal transfer from Real Madrid after full debut

Martin Odegaard has opened up on the possibility of securing a permanent move from Real Madrid to Arsenal, with the Norwegian midfielder admitting anything is possible.

The 22-year-old joined the Gunners during the winter transfer window on a loan deal through to the end of the season.

He made his full debut for the Premier League heavyweights in their 4-2 win over Leeds having previously made two appearances off the bench, and is ruling nothing out when it comes to his future.

What has been said?

When asked by TV2 whether he could stay on at Arsenal beyond the end of the 2020-21 campaign, Odegaard said: “You never know what is going to happen, but for now I am just focusing on doing my best this season and helping the team as much as possible.”

How has Odegaard fared so far?

Mikel Arteta snapped the promising playmaker up as he sought to bring added creativity into Arsenal’s squad.

World Cup winner Mesut Ozil was in the process of securing a switch to Fenerbahce, leaving the Gunners short of options in the No 10 role.

Academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe has been enjoying a breakthrough campaign in north London, but he is just 20 years of age and needed competition and cover.

Odegaard has provided that, with the former teen sensation being eased into the fold at Emirates Stadium.

He has played 110 minutes of Premier League football across three games and looked comfortable on the ball before being replaced by Mohamed Elneny in the second-half of the win over Leeds.

What has he said on life at Arsenal?

Odegaard claims to be enjoying his time in England, telling Arsenal Media: “It's a bit different but I think I am adapting pretty okay. The way they took me into the team - my teammates - and how they treated me, as well as the manager and everyone in the club, they helped me since the first minute.

“I feel really comfortable and a part of the team, so it's been easy to come in to this team because of the way they are and the way they treated me. I'm just really happy to be here and I'm proud to be a part of this team.”
