Ahmed Hossam Mido, the former Zamalek and Egypt star, tore into the referee who officiated the match between Al-Ahly and Enppi. He awarded a penalty in favour of the Red side, a decision Mido believes brought Al-Ahly back into the game and raised big question marks over the integrity of the match.
Mido wrote on his official account on the social media platform "X": "We are back to the Egyptian league and the decisions that provoke any follower of football," before turning his criticism straight onto the penalty award.
"A penalty from the referee's imagination brings Al-Ahly back into the match again," the former Zamalek star added, stressing that he had rewatched the play more than once looking for a foul that warranted a spot-kick.
He went further. "I watched it more than once, I tried to look for any push from the defender, I didn't find it," Mido explained, before rounding on Al-Ahly player Achraf Bencharki, saying he was looking for any contact to go down inside the penalty area, as he put it.
The penalty sparked wide controversy during the encounter between Al-Ahly and Enppi. It had a direct impact on the course of the match, which ended with a 3-2 win for the Red side and handed them their first three points of the Egyptian Premier League campaign.
