The Reds may be the Premier League's highest scorers, but they failed to post a single shot on target in the first half of their clash with Swansea

Liverpool have not endured too many struggles in the final third this season, but they were uncharacteristically off colour during the first half of Saturday's home date with Swansea City.

The Reds entered the contest as the Premier League’s highest scorers, having netted 49 times in 21 fixtures, and welcomed back Philippe Coutinho back into the side.

Coutinho handed starting berth

Jurgen Klopp’s side found the going tough against the Swans though and recorded their worst return in front of goal since November 2015, failing to even get a shot on target - let alone test Lukasz Fabianski.

Liverpool did have Coutinho back in their side for the first time in the Premier League since November, while the creative talents of Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana were included from the start.

The latter did go close with a spectacular volley during the opening 45 minutes, but saw his acrobatic effort fail to trouble Fabianski.

Better will be expected in the second period as the Reds look to keep pace with the Premier League’s title-chasing pack.
