Katsande: Ex-Kaizer Chiefs star headlines Sekhukhune United's new signings

Sekhukhune United have confirmed the signing of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Willard Katsande and four other signings.

The former Zimbabwe international was released by Amakhosi at the start of the month having spent 10 years with the Naturena-based giants.

Nicknamed Babina Noko, Sekhukhune has also announced the arrival of Zambian goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata, Zimbabwean midfielder Blessing Sarupinda and local defender Cheslyn Jampies.

Furthermore, Babina Noko have confirmed the signing of Justice Chabalala, who has joined the club on a season-long loan from Orlando Pirates.

The club released the following statement on its official Twitter account: 

Sekhukhune were promoted to the elite league for the first time after they clinched the 2020/21 National First Division title.

Katsande is pleased to have joined the newly-promoted club and he is looking forward to contributing to towards to the team's vision.

“Yeah, I’m happy to be part of this family, Sekhukhune family. It’s a new journey for me and I’m very, very happy with the welcome I got from the team,” Katsande said. 

“And yeah, I mean, it wasn’t a difficult decision to join them because obviously, I could see the vision of the team and I’m looking forward to contributing towards the vision of the team.”

His compatriot Sarupinda was part of the Zimbabwe squad which participated in the recent 2021 Cosafa Cup in Gqeberha.

While Jampies, who is a left-back by trade, has joined Babina Noko after spending a season (2020/21)with Baroka, making 20 appearances in the league.

His new teammate Nsabata is a promising goalkeeper having represented his country at the 2015 Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations finals in Senegal.

Lastly, Chabalala has joined Sekhukhune after initially being linked with a return to Chippa United. 

His parent club, Pirates, announced that the 29-year-old has moved to the Chilli Boys on loan earlier this month.

However, the player preferred a loan move to Sekhukhune where he will be hoping to enjoy some regular game time.
