Hazard: Conte works harder on tactics than Mourinho

Chelsea forward Eden Hazard lifted the Premier League title under Jose Mourinho but says that Antonio Conte works far harder on the tactical side of the game.

The Blues opted to make a change in the dugout back in December 2015, with a tough call made just seven months on from claiming the English top-flight crown.

Mourinho was relieved of his duties and has since inherited the reins at Manchester United, with Guus Hiddink taking temporary charge at Stamford Bridge until the end of the campaign.

Conte officially joined at the end of Euro 2016, with the Italian having impressed during spells with Juventus and the Azzurri.

He has shown himself to be capable of adapting to new surroundings and fresh challenges, with a slow start to his Chelsea reign now a distant memory as the club sit top of the table.

Hazard believes there is a clearer sense of direction at the west London club, with players left in no doubt as to what is expected of them – both on a personal level and as a collective.

Pep: Title is Chelsea's to lose

He told Sky Sports: "In tactics and training we do more with Conte.

"We work a lot of tactical positions and we know exactly what we have to do on the pitch, where I have to go and where the defenders have to go.

"We know exactly what to do. With Mourinho, he put in a system but we didn't work lots. We know what to do because we play football, but maybe the automatisms were a little bit different.

"With Mourinho, Nemanja Matic was behind me in the season when we won the title and sometimes I stayed in front and Matic did the job.

"With Conte it's different. I close more inside because Marcos Alonso is there as a wing-back. I just need to be ready to counter-attack if we get the ball."

Hazard endured a testing 2015-16 campaign, but has returned to form this season with nine goals in 25 appearances.
