Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Harry Kane will be called up to his next England squad after a blistering run of form for Tottenham.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a stunning season to date, scoring 23 goals in 35 appearances in all competitions.

Kane again found the net in Spurs’ 3-2 loss to Liverpool in midweek, and Hodgson has now confirmed that he intends to pick Kane for his 23-man selection ahead of the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania and the subsequent friendly with Italy.

“Is he worth a place in the squad? Of course he is,” he told reporters. “He certainly deserves a place in the squad as much as, say, Saido [Berahino] did in the last squad.

“I like to think I do show a certain degree of loyalty to players who have been playing for a while and who I know I can trust. But I also like to think that I’m prepared to give someone a chance when he’s really showing with his current form he’s worthy of a place.

“Harry has all the qualities you want in a centre-forward. He can be a target player and receive balls that are played up to him.

“He’s not one who just stays on the shoulder and make runs, he’s prepared to take part in the build-up play, run the channels. He combines everything that you’re looking for in a centre-forward.”

Kane has played for England at Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level, and has scored for each.
