Former Melaka United (MU) star Ilija Spasojevic is open to the idea of rejoining Indonesian club Persib Bandung, the club he played for before he joined the Mousedeers.

Speaking to the Indonesian edition of Goal , the Montenegrin forward said that this is because of his emotional connection with the club's fanbase known as Bobotoh.

"I have an emotional connection with Persib and Bobotoh. I've been reading [on social media], many of them want me to return to Persib.

"Their belief in me is extraordinary. I really appreciate it, and am grateful for it," said the 29-year old player.

However he clarified that although he is interested in a return to the Indonesian champions, no negotiations have taken place between the two parties.

"So far Persib have not contacted me, and I am still open to all possibilities. I am here for Persib whenever needed.

"So far there has only been interest and discussions with Barito Putera, but there has been no agreement. I am currently a free agent. So, we'll see how it goes," explained Spasojevic.

Spasojevic played for Persib in 2015, before joining Melaka United in the Premier League for the 2016 season. He helped the Mousedeers gain quick promotion to the Super League at the end of the season, bagging the league's golden boot award along the way.

However, life in Malaysia's top division has proven to be a step up too high for Melaka and the forward, and the team are now in the relegation zone.

A mid-season squad reshuffling saw several major changes at the club, including the release of Spasojevic.
