Feyenoord director Robert Eenhoorn reacted strongly straight after the 5-2 away win over SC Cambuur to the fireworks incident in the away end. The match was temporarily suspended after 12 minutes when fireworks were fired from the section with Feyenoord supporters towards the pitch and surrounding stands, with three supporters injured.
"Worthless, to begin with," Eenhoorn told ESPN's cameras. "Above all, I think it is terrible for a number of Cambuur supporters who were injured. I hope those people are OK."
The Feyenoord general director said he could not understand why the situation escalated so badly. "To be honest, I do not understand the reason either. Normally you hear something now and then, but that was not the case this time either. It is difficult to always find out who is responsible."
According to Eenhoorn, Feyenoord will do everything they can to identify the supporters involved. "If people are identified, they will receive a stadium ban. There is not much more you can do at this moment, but I think it is clear that this is something we absolutely do not want to see."
He also pointed to the positive reputation of the Legioen, who usually travel in huge numbers to follow Feyenoord. "The Legioen are fantastic, Hans. They go everywhere and full away ends are exactly what we want to see. But this is not the idea and I do not like it at all."
One of the fireworks projectiles also flew narrowly past Feyenoord goalkeeper Tjark Ernst, while five Cambuur supporters in a family section were hit. "You almost fire a rocket at your own goalkeeper, who happens to see it coming, and Cambuur supporters are injured. I hope the people who did this are a bit ashamed of themselves."
Even so, Eenhoorn hopes away supporters will not be banned completely in future. "Of course, there are also people in that section who have absolutely nothing to do with this. In the end, the good will end up suffering because of the bad, and that would be a great shame because, once again, the Legioen are fantastic."
On the pitch, Feyenoord eventually came away with a comfortable 5-2 win, but the incident dominated Eenhoorn's thoughts afterwards. "We won, which is nice: three points. But what happened in the 12th minute, I do not like at all. Today was a bad miss."
