Crazy Icelandic commentator loses job

GOALEXTRA TIME

Remember the commentator who lost his mind when Arnor Ingvi Traustason scored the winning goal for Iceland against Austria? Of course you do.

Well, he's lost his job.

Not his commentating gig, thankfully, but his role as assistant manager of KR Reykjavik.

Gudmundur Benediktsson is his name and he's been part of the management team that has overseen the club lose five of their last six matches in all competitions.

Manager proper Bjarni Gudjonsson Eggert said: “From my first day on the job as coach of KR I have focused on the interests of the club as a priority.

"After a bad start to the season I, along with the board, concluded that it is in the interests of the team that I resign.

"I am grateful to the KR board for having trusted in me for the training team.

"KR’s future is bright and I am confident that the team will get back to the top, where it belongs, before long.”

With England vs Iceland on the horizon, one hopes Benediktsson isn't too distraught to pick the microphone back up.

Anyone else hoping for another late goal?
