Charly Musonda has signed a new contract at Premier League champions Chelsea which will keep him at the club until 2022.

The highly-rated midfielder has been rewarded with fresh terms in a campaign which has seen him make a first-team breakthrough at Stamford Bridge.

The 21-year-old, who spent time gaining vital senior experience at Real Betis last season, made a goalsocring full debut for the Blues in a 5-1 Carabao Cup win over Nottingham Forest – having previously figured off the bench in the Community Shield and a Premier League defeat to Burnley.

He has been on Chelsea’s books since 2012 and is delighted to have been offered the opportunity to extend his stay in west London.

The Belgium U21 international told the club’s official website: “I am very happy and very proud. I came here very young and am very happy to continue my journey here.

“I love this club so it’s a great moment for me and my family.

“Now I want to establish myself and progress into the team and stay here permanently.”

Blues director Marina Granovskaia added: “We are very happy Charly has committed his future to the club.

“He is an exciting talent who we believe can develop into an important first-team player and we hope he will be a part of Chelsea’s successes for a long time to come.”

Musonda, who won the FA Youth Cup on two occasions while part of the Blues’ academy system, has gone on to take his tally of appearances to six this season and will hope that there are many more to come as he pushes for a place in Antonio Conte’s plans.
