The Greek Football Federation has branded the posting of a bullet to the governing body’s president an “attempted terrorist attack”.
A threatening package arrived at the office of Vangelis Grammenos on Thursday.
It contained a three-page letter accompanied by a 9mm bullet.
The package was opened by Grammenos’ assistants as he was not at his Athens office at the time.
The actions of those involved have, however, been condemned in the strongest possible terms by the Greek FA.
In a statement released on Friday, the Federation stated: “The Greek Football Federation condemns in its most unequivocal, unambiguous and unmistakable way yesterday's attempted terrorist attack on President Grammenos.”
They went on to add that “the newly elected administration of the Federation is not intimidated” and reiterated that “complete redevelopment, which may upset some, will be completed” within the domestic game in Greece.
The matter is now under investigation by anti-blackmail and anti-terrorist units, with Greek authorities determined to identify the culprits.
Efforts to clean up Greek football have been introduced by the country’s government after seeing accusations of match-fixing and incidents of violence become all too common.
