Neom's Alexandre Lacazette has followed in the footsteps of former Al-Taawoun striker Leandre Tawamba. The France forward scored against the same opponent in two matches across two different competitions, both at the same stadium and within three days of each other.
Lacazette hit Al-Faisaly three times at the Al-Majma'ah Sports City Stadium. He opened his account in Neom's 3-1 win on Tuesday in the round of 32 of the King's Cup, then returned to the same ground on Friday to score a brace as his side won 2-0 in the second round of the Saudi Roshn League.
Tawamba pulled off the same feat back in 2019. He found the net against Al-Hilal in Al-Taawoun's emphatic 5-0 win on 26 April in the semi-finals of the King's Cup, a match staged at the King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh.
Three days later, the Cameroonian returned to the same stadium and struck the opener in Al-Taawoun's 2-0 win over Al-Hilal, a rescheduled fixture from round 28 of the Pro League, according to Saudi Arabia's «Arriyadiyah» newspaper.
The parallels are striking. Both men played their first match in the King's Cup, faced the same opponent in the league three days later, scored in both games on the opponent's ground, and led their teams to victory each time.
Where Lacazette edges it is in front of goal. He netted three across the two matches, one more than the Cameroonian, who managed one in each encounter.
