In the previous round, Shelbourne saw off Estonia's Nõmme Kalju FC. The Irish club won the home leg 5-2 and could therefore absorb a 2-1 defeat in the return leg.
Domestically, the visitors are enduring a difficult season and currently sit fifth. Shelbourne also lost 1-0 last weekend to strugglers Waterford.
Ajax coach Míchel Sánchez will have Marc ter Stegen, Julian Brandt and Tolu Arokodare available against Shelbourne. UEFA registered the three new signings in time, so they are eligible for the first meeting with the Irish opponents.
