Ajax are closing in on the signing of Viktor Tsygankov, Nil Solà reports. The Cadena SER journalist says the fee is four million euros plus one million in bonuses. Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf has confirmed the news and says personal terms are not a problem.
Solà, who is close to events at Girona, says the Ukrainian will fly to Amsterdam on Monday to complete the move. Verweij has confirmed that too.
For Girona, selling Tsygankov is hugely important. The relegated club want the right winger off the wage bill.
Last week, the player also fell out with his club. He refused to play for Girona and shared private chats on Instagram to force a transfer, after which the Spanish club started legal proceedings.
Míchel, now Ajax head coach, knows Tsygankov well. The two worked together at Girona.
With only a year left on his contract and the row still fresh, Girona want him gone. That has left Ajax able to sign him for a very low fee. According to Transfermarkt, he is worth fifteen million euros.
Across 119 appearances for Girona, Tsygankov scored twenty goals and supplied 23 assists.
