Manchester City have settled their midfielder's future, striking a verbal agreement with Newcastle United to send him to Tyneside this summer.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, via his account on X, reports that the two clubs agreed a fee of 47 million pounds for Spain's Nico Gonzalez, with a further 3 million pounds in add-ons and variables taking the total value of the deal to 50 million pounds.
The player has given Newcastle the green light. Negotiations moved on significantly over the past few hours, leaving Gonzalez ready for a fresh chapter in an English shirt.
Newcastle expect the Spanish midfielder to become central to a project intent on bolstering the engine room this window, particularly after several players in that role moved on.
Gonzalez arrived at Manchester City from Porto in January 2025, but he never nailed down a regular starting spot. That opened the door to a possible exit from the Etihad as Pep Guardiola reshapes his side.
City, then, are ready to cash in on one of their players in a deal worth 50 million pounds all told, with the club still reorganising its squad before the window shuts.
