Wrexham heading Down Under! Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side tipped for blockbuster clash with Melbourne Victory

According to Nine’s Tom Morris, the Welsh side is expected to face A-League outfit Melbourne Victory later this year, with the match likely to take place at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. Despite Wrexham currently playing in England’s third tier, the club’s immense rise in popularity—largely due to the success of their documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham—has made them a highly marketable team on the global stage.

Speaking on Nine News, Morris emphasized how significant this event would be, particularly from a tourism perspective.

“Wrexham, the club that’s been made famous by Ryan Reynolds and a three-series documentary overseas, Wrexham is highly likely to be playing a game in July against Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium,” Morris said on Nine News. “It’s an amazing coup for Visit Victoria. If they can get it done, and I expect they will, this is almost certainly happening.”

During a press tour earlier this year, McElhenney spoke to Rolling Stone about Wrexham’s massive fanbase in Australia, revealing that the country ranks third in viewership for Welcome to Wrexham, behind only the United States and the United Kingdom. Hence, Australia appears to be a likely destination for an international pre-season tour.

“Maybe we go on an international tour with a certain club to a certain continent?” he told Rolling Stone.

“Our third biggest… audience for Welcome to Wrexham is Australia. No. 1 US, No. 2 UK, No 3. is Australia, which I find fascinating. There is a lot of love for Wrexham. Who knows? Maybe we might bring the club to you instead of the other way around.”

While plans for an Australian tour are in motion, Wrexham’s immediate focus remains on securing yet another promotion. Currently sitting second in League One, the team is in the midst of a heated race for an automatic promotion spot alongside Wycombe Wanderers, while Birmingham City lead the title race. Phil Parkinson’s side is set to host Burton Albion on Saturday, hoping to bounce back after a 2-2 draw against Cambridge United in their last outing.
