More Wrexham woes for Paul Mullin as striker is completely left out of matchday squad for Bolton clash just days after devastating penalty miss

Since joining Wrexham in 2021, Mullin has played a pivotal role in the club’s resurgence, helping secure promotion from the National League and into the English Football League (EFL). However, the 2024-25 season has been far from smooth for the 29-year-old forward, as persistent injury setbacks have significantly impacted his form and playing time.

While Mullin was used as a substitute in the Football League Trophy semi-final against Peterborough, his crucial penalty miss in the shootout proved costly, as Wrexham crashed out of the competition. The disappointment from that moment has now been followed by his exclusion from the squad against Bolton. However, the Red Dragons drew a blank at home and Parkinson could have used Mullin from the bench.

Wrexham’s ambition to continue their rise through the EFL has led to increased competition in the attacking department. In January, the club bolstered its forward options by signing Jay Rodriguez from Burnley and Sam Smith from Reading. With experienced strikers Steven Fletcher and Jack Marriott also available, Mullin’s place in the squad has become increasingly uncertain.

Although Mullin remains contracted to Wrexham until 2027, his lack of playing time raises questions about his long-term future at the club. Since his arrival, Mullin has scored 110 goals for Wrexham, but with new attacking reinforcements and fitness concerns limiting his impact, his time at Racecourse Ground could be drawing to a close.
