Wrexham's National League points record is in trouble! Ryan Reynolds' history makers could be usurped after just one season after Chesterfield get off to incredible start

The Dragons made history last season when surging to title glory – allowing them to bring a 15-year absence from the Football League to a close. With Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in regular attendance, Wrexham collected 111 points from 46 games.

Runners-up Notts County also passed the century mark, before going on to secure promotion through the play-offs, but Chesterfield may be about to eclipse everything that has gone before them. They finished third last term, suffering Wembley agony against County, but now have their sights set on top spot.

The Spireites – who are into a sixth season as a non-league club - have dropped just seven points through their opening 15 games. They have picked up 12 wins and two draws so far, taking them to 38 points. That could be considered record-setting pace.

If Chesterfield were to maintain their current standards, with two thirds of the campaign still to play, then they would make it to 116 points. Reynolds, McElhenney and Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson will not be overly concerned about exploits at the SMH Group Stadium – as they are now focused on reaching League One – but they would have expected to hold one piece of history for a little longer than 12 months.
