Wrexham get another battle at Bramall Lane! Carabao Cup draw reunites Red Dragons with Sheffield United after previous ‘rent free’ jibe from Rob McElhenney & ‘stick that up your documentary’s arse’ response from Billy Sharp

The Red Dragons famously locked horns with the Blades back in the 2022-23 campaign. Having already seen off Championship side Coventry en route to the FA Cup fourth round, Wrexham gave Premier League-bound Sheffield United a serious run for their money across two epic encounters.

A dramatic equaliser from John Egan in a six-goal thriller at SToK Racecourse forced a replay, with Billy Sharp wrapping up a 3-1 victory for the Blades in the return date – as the hosts scored twice in stoppage-time. Veteran frontman Sharp would go on to bellow “stick that up your documentary’s arse” as he sent an emotional message to Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

McElhenney would pipe back with a “living rent free in that motherf*cker’s brain” response when the games in question figured in the award-winning Welcome to Wrexham documentary series. There will be no reunion with Sharp this time around, as he is now at Doncaster, but a rivalry of sorts is to be rekindled.

Wrexham will head to Sheffield in the week commencing August 12, with there now just one division separating the two teams. Phil Parkinson’s side are up into League One, while the Blades are back in the Championship after spending just one season among the Premier League elite.
